Crisis committees break from the traditional mold of the signature general assemblies with fast paced discussion that have immediate impacts within the simulation. Delegates will have the opportunity to run through the course of the conflict by using their portfolio powers, communiqués, and other powers to craft their own novel resolutions.
On June 24, 1812, French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte crossed the Neman River and lead the Grande Armée into Russia. Napoleon claimed that the campaign was launched to liberate the Poles from the influence of the Russians. However, he also hoped to pressure Russian Tsar Alexander I into ceasing trade with the British in order to corner the British into suing for peace with France.
At the beginning of the invasion, the Grande Armée had 685,000 soldiers in its ranks, the largest army assembled in European history. The French also had one of the most technologically advanced armies of its time.
However, this would not be an easy victory for Napoleon. Invasions of Russia are always tricky because of the vastness of the country, the famous resilience of its people, and its lethal winters.
