This crisis committee breaks from the traditional mold of the signature general assemblies with fast paced discussion that have immediate impacts within the simulation. Delegates will have the opportunity to run through the course of the conflict by using their portfolio powers, communiqués, and other powers to craft their own novel resolutions.
Following President Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865 amidst the Reconstruction era (1863-1877), which saw the Civil War and abolition of slavery , vice-president Andrew Johnson was quickly sworn in as Lincoln's replacement. The appointment of Johnson, a slave-holding Democrat from the South, ushered in a period of weak Reconstruction policies, in direct contrast with Lincoln's message of suffrage for all freedmen echoed in his final speeches. In this committee, delegates will work from the perspective of either the Union or Confederacy to guide this period of reconstruction in the wake of Lincoln's death.
