The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is the UN agency charged with protecting the rights and safety of refugees and stateless people. It was established in 1950, and currently helps more than 30 million people in 126 countries, including 14.7 million internally displaced people, 10.5 million refugees, 3.5 million stateless people, and millions of others. For that reason, delegates in the UNHCR committee at BUAMUN will discuss some of the most challenging issues in international development.

Evelyn Huang is a junior at BU Academy, and is excited to be a part of BUAMUN 2015! This is her second year in Model UN and BUAMUN; last year, she was the vice chair of UN Human Rights Council. Besides MUN, Evelyn is a member of BUA's robotics, science, and crew team.

Mayrose Beatty ('16), Vice-Chair
Mayrose Beatty is a junior at BUA who, in addition to being part of BUAMUN and BUA’s Model UN club, is a foilist on the fencing team and an editor of the literary magazine. Mayrose joined Model UN and BUAMUN last year and has been to two conferences with BUA in addition to being an admin staffer for BUAMUN 2014. Mayrose is very excited to be a vice-chair of the UNHCR committee as her first chair role, and can’t wait to meet the delegates of BUAMUN 2015!
